A Dhaka news source said in 2014 there were 600,000 cycle rickshaws in the city of 19 million. They cruise so close to each other that a passenger has to pull in arms and legs, and front wheels often rest against the rear axle of the pedicab ahead.
Our guide said a rickshaw cyclist earns $5 - $8 a day. Rice costs 50 to 75 cents a kilo. So its not a bad living.
