Each year a different village Angh (headman) presides over the Hornbill Festival inaugural ceremony. In December 2012, K. Pheiwang of Tuimei, a Konyak tribal village, presided. Mr. Pheiwang still displays the facial tattoos that were only allowed to be acquired by those who had taken the heads of those they killed in battle.
